RealLifePlans exists to make one of life's most important financial decisions simpler. Every company featured on our site is evaluated against the same transparent methodology, and our editorial team updates ratings regularly as products, pricing, and service levels change.
Our Rating Methodology
Each life insurance provider receives an overall score out of 10, built from six weighted categories:
Coverage options — the breadth of policy types offered (term, whole, universal, final expense), available coverage amounts, and the flexibility of riders and conversion options.
Pricing — how competitive a provider's premiums are for comparable coverage across a range of ages, health profiles, and coverage amounts.
Financial strength — the financial ratings of the underwriting carriers a provider works with, which indicate an insurer's ability to pay claims decades from now.
Digital experience — how easy it is to get a quote, apply, and manage a policy online, including application speed and clarity of information.
Customer satisfaction — feedback from policyholders, complaint ratios relative to company size, and the quality of customer support.
Speed of approval — how quickly applicants can move from quote to active coverage, including the availability of no-exam and instant-decision underwriting.
Editorial Independence
Our ratings are produced by our editorial team and are not dictated by advertisers. We may earn a commission when you click links on our site, which can affect how and where offers appear, but compensation never changes a company's score.
